FFXIV DoH Rank up guide : Cheap way to rank up from 1 to 50
Hi, today I would like to share some of my tip and trick for rank up guide that I experience myself. It’s a draft version for now but I’ll continue add more detail in the future.
*NOTE* This guide was wrote before patch 1.19.. Most thing changed after patch. Some recipes might not working for grinding anymore. But some are still good. Please try to find your best recipe to grind. If you have any good recommendation, feel free to post in comment box on this page ^^
1) Prepare your crystals/shards
After I try to rank up some class to 50, I found out that most expensive and must-have for rank up is crystals and shard. You’ll need lotssss of them. eg. for rank up ARM you’ll need load of Earth Shards ( I didn’t count it but I think I used around 40,000-50,000 earth shards just for rank up from 35->50 ) If you buy it from market ward, it will cost you around 10M gil!!! ( 200 each )
The easiest way to get that much of crystals/shard is from Fishing. And you can use Alchemist to change each fish to crystal/shard. The more high level fish, the more crystal you’ll get. Here’s some of my other tip&trick that I post here about fishing topic.

But when you Fish, you’ll found out that your inventory will fill-out with fishes! I recommend to create another character to do fishing bot only so you can have fish in it inventory without anything else. My trick is try not to sell any fish to NPC! You might need it in the future! But if you have too many 1 type of fish ( like Ala Minga Fighting Fish ) you can just sell some to NPC to clear space.
You can use this character to do some shard/crystal crafting also. So you can enjoy your time in FFXIV with your main char while with this char in your spare computer/notebook. ( Don’t worry about graphic much because you just need to bot. For me I use my another notebook with all graphic set to minimum, and it still can work too )
Another trick is, when you got high level fish, you’ll got lot of crystals from it. But how to make shard? You don’t have to go back to lower grade and try to fish up some low-level fish to change to shard. The easiest + fastest way is to use “Fine Sand”. Also, you don’t have to craft it yourself! You can just walk to Alchemist Guild in Ul’dah and buy it from shop for just around 350 gil ( it will cost you just around 35,000 gil a stack ) With this Fine Sand, you can break any crystal to shard and get a lot of it ( 1 crystal -> 16 shard ) With full stack of fine sand, you’ll have 1,584 shards in just few min ( using Hasty Hand ) With 6 Stack of fine sand and 600 crystals, you’ll get around 9,600 shards in few hours! You just pay only 210,000 gil for the shard that worth almost 2m gil!
2) Time to rank up DoH classes! But… which one?
2.0) Alchemy
I was not mention this class rank up guide because you can grind from fish you got from bot. But when you reach 40+. You can’t find many fish to rank up. But I just found the way to do it with a “Black Sole”. Please read my guide to fish up black sole here http://moetoy.com/?p=1482
But grind with back slow will lot slow when you reach 47-48.. and at this point, no fish can craft and get good exp. You can stick with black sole if you like, but here’s some comment from the Lalafell : can grind on different kind of fish till R45 then it’s hell from there. people said 4x dart frog or Boar leather dye is the best way to go to R50 but mats is quite hard to find
Update : Please check this table for each fish that meet your rank of ALC : Fish Alchemy
For the last 44-50, you can try grind with ALC41 fishes until 50, at 49-50 you still get around 100+ sp per craft.
2.1) Armorer! The easiest class to rank up!
In my experience, the most easiest class to rank up is “Armorer”. Because you can using “Iron Square” from ARM rank 22 to rank 50! But you’ll need truck load of earth shard and some of wind shards as I mentioned earlier.
You can just walk to Market ward and grab 2-3 stacks of Limonite/Iron Ore. and make it to nugget and to square. With this method you’ll get exp for Blacksmith class also, and lot cheaper that buy iron nugget.I recommend to make iron square from raw mat yourself ! and have all the time in the world to do this super-boring stuff so let it do for you It’s lot cheaper level up this way
Also, after you train Armorer, you can sell the finish product back to NPC. Most of it are some armor part and stackable. So you’ll get some money back to buy another ore to do same thing again and again.
Update : Here’s the list of recipe for each rank
1-12 : Local Leve/ Bronze Square(12) / Copper Square(1) – - Try to rank up to 12 so we can start making Iron Square(21)
13-22 : Bronze Celata Visor(20 ) – - Using Bronze Square x2 or Try Iron Square(21)
22-25 : Iron Buckle(23) — Using 2xIron Square+1xIron Nugget. It’s kind of gap here, you can try stick with Iron Square till 25-26 or you can change to this recipe for a bit faster rank up
26-35 : Iron Barbut Visor(34) –2xI.Sq. if you can do it at 26, just do it.
36-42 : Iron Celata Visor(40) – 2xI.Sq. again
42-50 : Iron Greaves(50) –2xI.Sq. with Buffalo Leather Strap. if this one hard for you, you can stick with Iron Celata Visor until 44-45, but compare to lot more sp, i think its better to start this recipe as soon as possible when you can do it.
2.2) Weaver

After I tried to rank up Weaver from above guide, I found out that weave is the super easy class to rank up since you can recycle your finished product to be an ingredient of the next recipe to rank up, and all of item are STACKABLE! that what we need lol. Here’s some guide that I copy-n-paste from above guide, I used it from 33 -> 50
R 1-7 Hempen Turban (7)
R 7-13 - Cotton Yarn x12 (11)
R 13-20 Undyed Cotton Cloth x3 (19)
R 20-27 Cotton Shirt Back (25)
R 28-33 Canvas Work Gloves (35)
R 34-39+Undyed Velveteen (39)
R 39 – 46+Velveteen Shirt Front (46)
R 47-50 Undyed Linen (49)/Woolen Yarn(44)/Undyed Woolen Cloth(50) — This woolen thing is good to go if you grind Leathercraft and have Fleece left.
2.3) Carpenter
After I tried as “the Lalafell” comment, I found out that carpenter is very easy class to train rank up! Here’s the detail how to do it.
very straight forward from Log>Lumber>Mask/Half Mask
R10 -> R20 = Willow
R20 -> R30 = Oak
R30 -> R40 = Yew
R 40 -> R50 = Walnut
My note : If you have plenty of shard, you can make profit from craft and sell all mask/half mask to NPC. So it’s very easy to rank up without losing any money at all ^^ that why I moved up to #2 easiest class after Armorer.
The downside is you have to sell mask to NPC itself. So you have to manually sell it to NPC after around 90 craft ( let say you keep all your stuff in retainers ) This will take about 2.30 hour to finish 90 craft.
2.4) Blacksmith
Blacksmith use iron nugget to make lot of things. And it’s cheaper to rank up with iron nugget compare to other stuff. By the way, I don’t rank 50 yet so I can’t tell you much. But as far as I know. If it use only 1 material type, it good.
Comment from the Lalafell : at 40 you’ll need tons of silver nuggets to grind on silver javelin head to about 45+ that you can change to steel round knife head all the way to 50. Bomb ash can be farm in Nanawa mine quite easily these days.
Update : Here’s some of my guide
1-14 : Local Leve/ Bronze Nugget(4) / Bronze Fish Hook(12) — this fish hook using only 1 bronze nugget
15-20 : Iron Nugget(14) – This is a required mat for later craft. But it has high fail rate so maybe you can start this recipe at later level / Bronze Gorge Hook(19)
21-25 : Iron Axe Ferrule(24) — Since it’s a cheap recipe ( 1xIron Square ) so you can stick with this to 25+
26-31 : Iron Arrowheads(30) / Iron Gorge Hook(29) — both using 2xIron Nugget but it different in shard requirement
32-39 : Iron Francisca Head(36)/Iron Javelin Head(38) — using 3xIron Nugget but you can sell it back to NPC with high price ( 550 each )
36-42 : Iron Round Knife Blade(41) / Ornamental Iron Hammer Head (41) – Using 4xIron Nugget but different in shard.. up to your shard stock
42-50 : Silver Javelin Head(48) – using 3xsilver nugget also good NPC sell back price.. if you have lot of gil, just buy silver ore from market and grind this last 10 rank faster. ( using around 10 m gil to grind to 50 if people sell silver ore for 4k each.. but you’ll get money back around 5 m gil for sell this thing back to NPC. ( Update * I tried to find another recipe such as Steel Round Knife Blade(50) — Need Bomb Ash… super rare, or Iron Longsword Blade(50) — Need 2Iron Ingot+1Iron Nugget.. lead to the need of tons of Iron Ore and Tons of Fire crystal…not good .. So I think the Silver Javelin Head is still good till 50 )
2.5) Goldsmith
You can buy cheap zinc ore from market and buy copper ore from miner guild to make brass nugget. With this brass nugget you can rank up to 30+. After that you can move to some silver ore and craft silver needle with just 1 nuggets.
But the problem will come when you close to 40, you can’t find cheap mat to craft! Mythril is insane expensive and rare. But you can try steel nugget and craft some steel needle if you like.
For me, I just found some interesting recipe. There’s a White/Red/Blue coral that Goldsmith can make a <color> coral arrow head at rank 40 and 44,45. And these coral can fish up from many areas, especially in La Nocea. I’ll update this post if I find more detail about how to fish these corals.

this is a good guide for GS
R1-12: Local Leve, Bone Ring (2 x Bone Chip), Bone Harpoon Butt (1 x Bone Chip), Copper Nuggets (4 Copper Ore or 4 Yellow Copper Ore), Brass Nuggets (3 Copper Ore 1 Zincs)
R12-15: Copper Earrings (2 x Copper Nugget), Silver Nugget (4 Silver Ore or 5 Silver Sand), Tier 1 Gem, Marbled Eye.
R15-18: Copper Ring (2 x Copper Nugget)
R18-25: Silver Francisca Head, Brass Earrings or Brass Rings. Start Brass Ring at r20 for ease of synth.
R25-28: Brass Rings or Silver Earrings, Tier 2 Gem, Electrum Nugget
R28-35: Silver Ring/Silver Needle, Mythril Nugget (4 Mythril Ore)
R35-39: Silver Chakram, Tier 1 Gemmed Ring, Silver Needle/Silver Ring, White Coral Arrowhead, Yarzonshell Harpoon Butt, anything you can get your hands on with decent SP
R39-44: Electrum Ring, Blue Coral Arrowhead, Tier 3 Gem
R44-50: Silver Francisca, Red Coral Breastpin, Tier 2 Gemmed Ring, Red Coral Arrowhead, Tier 3 Gem and finally Tier 4 Gem at very late stage.
2.6) Leatherwork
For me, it’s very hard to rank up this class because all mat is expensive! ( Buffalo Hide is freaking expensive! around 20k each! Also, you only can get these ingredient from mob farming only. So…. If you are rich, you can just buy mat and rank up away lol
Update : Found this from search FFXIV forum. I want to give credit but don’t want to make her look like he relate with bot community so… thank you. ( try search in FFXIV forum to see the result ) After try to search YG for possible cheap and easy way to rank up, here’s my recommended recipes. ( well, it’s easier than I though ).
In short, you will need truckload of sheepskin, so stock if up if you can. Because if you buy from ward, it will be overprice.
1-15 Sheep Leather, Sheep Leather Vamp
15-23 Dodo Leather, Dodo Leather Vamp
23-25 Midnite Black Dodo Leather
25-29 Diremite Sinew Cord, Buffalo Leather(28), Leather Vamp(27) *Buffalo hide is kinda expensive here. But you can reuse it with vamp recipe
29-36 Cotton Singlet(35) *Not expensive if you can find cheap Diremite Sinew Cord, but you’ll need sheepskin to make most of ingredients in this recipe.. / or Cotton Breastcloth(38) if you can find cheap Diremite Web to make dew thread(WEA35), but you need sheepskin also..
36-45 Fleece(44) *using only 1 sheep skin for this recipe, you can farm with any sheep ^^/ boar leather -> boar leather strap -> boarskin shoulder guards ( Do not buy Sheepskin from ward if price more than 7200 gil, you can buy sheepskin as much as you want from NPC at Grinadia for just 7200 each )
45-50 idk
2.7 ) Culinary
Actually this class is easy to level with the fish we got from fishing, but it’s no point leveling this class for now because food effect isn’t great enough. So I put it in last one because I almost ignore this class lol.
Ok. For Weaver,Carpenter,Leatherwork you might need to make some money before try to rank up this to 50. The easiest way is to sell crystal/shard in market ward by using my method.

Actually this class is easy to level with the fish we got from fishing, but it’s no point leveling this class for now because food effect isn’t great enough. So I put it in last one because I almost ignore this class lol.
Ok. For Weaver,Carpenter,Leatherwork you might need to make some money before try to rank up this to 50. The easiest way is to sell crystal/shard in market ward by using my method.
